X-Ray feature not working on Prime App on Apple TV+

I'm using an AppleTV+4k. I do not get the X-ray feature at all. If I press up on the remote, I do get the progress bar and icons for subtitles, etc, but there is nothing for X-Ray. It doesn't matter if I do this when the video is paused or playing. I have confirmed on a Roku device that the particular video does have X-ray support.

X-ray support is just completely missing in the device. I contacted Amazon and they weren't helpful other than suggesting that Apple may have requested it to be disabled in the app to promote the Insight feature in AppleTV. I don't know how likely that is.

Appreciate any tips on how to get actual support for this problem instead of just being bounced between Apple and Amazon customer supports.

Prime Video's X-Ray:

This feature provides bonus content and information about movies and TV shows on Prime Video. When activated, it displays an overlay with details like:

  • Cast and Characters: Information about actors, their roles, and character backstories.
  • Trivia: Fun facts and behind-the-scenes details.
  • Music: Information about the soundtrack, including songs and artists.
  • Bonus Content: Behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes, and other extras.
  • X-Ray Recaps: AI-powered summaries of key plot points, particularly helpful for catching up after a break or discovering details from earlier in a series.

To access X-Ray on Prime Video, you typically tap the screen, click up on a remote, or move your cursor while the video is playing.

what the AI says

"The Amazon Prime Video app on Apple TV previously offered an X-Ray feature, which displayed information about actors, characters, and music within a video while playing. However, some users have reported that the X-Ray feature is no longer accessible on the Apple TV app. This disappearance seems to coincide with Apple's introduction of its own similar feature called "InSight" in tvOS 18, which is exclusive to Apple TV+ content.

X-Ray Feature in Prime Video on Apple TV (Previously Available):

  • How to Access (Previously):
  • In the Prime Video app on Apple TV, users could access X-Ray by pausing the video and swiping upwards on the touch surface of the remote.
  • What it showed:
  • X-Ray displayed information about actors, their characters, and the music playing in the scene.
  • Why it might be missing:
  • Some users speculate that the feature was removed to encourage the use of Apple's native player and its "InSight" feature.

Apple's InSight Feature (Currently Available):

  • How to Access:
  • InSight is accessed by tapping the screen or pressing up on the Siri remote while watching Apple TV+ content.
  • What it shows:
  • InSight provides information about actors, their characters, and music playing in the scene, similar to the previous Prime Video X-Ray feature.
  • Key Difference:
  • InSight is currently exclusive to Apple TV+ content, while the Prime Video X-Ray feature worked across all content within the Prime Video app.

In short, the X-Ray feature in Prime Video on Apple TV is likely no longer available, but Apple has introduced a similar feature called InSight, which is exclusive to Apple TV+ content. "
