Apple Mail: Connections to the server “p71-imap.mail.me.com” on the default ports timed out.

My desktop will no longer connect to Apple Mail.

Nothing has changed (no new updates or software.)

Error message: "Connections to the server “p71-imap.mail.me.com” on the default ports timed out".

However, my iPad has no problem, using the same wifi.

Not sure it is my old software.

My laptop is giving the same message that the desktop has done for six months

     (before its Mail stopped working)

I was just clicking 'continue', but then it stopped working completely.

The laptop still works if I click 'continue', but the desktop has stopped.

Laptop running OSX 14.1.1.

My new laptop has similar problems.

And it will not add any of my Mail accounts.

When I try to add my existing accounts, it gives this (image below).

The iPad is ok, and connects to all my Mail accounts - including the old @me.com accounts.

Is this anything to do with @me.com accounts?

Infuriatingly, the laptop will not reply to these community notes pages.

It always says “try again in a few minutes”

So again I have send replies to you on the iPad.

At about a decade old OS X 10.11.6 has grown considerably outdated. It not likely to work with any recent email protocols, iCloud Mail included.

It gets worse. iCloud.com Mail won't work with any El Cap compatible browser that I know of.

Can you update macOS on your model iMac? Almost anything newer than El Capitan should still work with iCloud Mail.
