MacBook Air asking for a different password every time even after resetting it

Why, when I have to reset my password (again) will it not accept the new password that I just set? I go through the procedure, I get a notification that my PW changed, then I try to log in, using the username they provided, and it doesn't work. What is up with that?

How many passwords do I need for my MacBook Air, M2, 2022? There's one to unlock the computer and one for everything else right? Does the MacStore require it's own password? Should I just keep changing it until it's happy?

Password Not Working:

Password for what? There is only one password for your Apple Account, as there is for your macOS Account.

No... something is wrong with that. Some of your question is confusing to me. For example, who are "they" in the following passage?

... then I try to log in, using the username they provided, and it doesn't work.

You provided your Login name (username) and password.

I suggest starting from the beginning, and identify which password you reset. Your Mac requires one password to log in. It can be the same password you use for your Apple Account, or they can be different from one another, if you so choose.
