On sending a text message to myself on iPhone 14 Plus it triplicates

For a while now every time i send a text message to myself on IPhone 14 Plus it shows up in triplicate.

How can I fix that? IOS is updated to 18.5. I have turned it off and rebooted but nothing works.

it’s very time consuming to have to delete all those messages all the time.

please help.

excuse me for the delayed response. So, with this image you sent in, the problem is obvious. Just for reference: on my device, it looks like this:

so, your problem now is: “use your apple account for iMessage” is greyed out. I don’t have been able to identify why, yet, but at least it’s an alright starting point. We could also open a new post just about this, maybe some of the others have a suggestion as well.

Update: This thread’s OP describes the exact same characteristics, currently reading through it…

Update: the answering operator pointed out being signed in with your apple account (which you most certainly are) and having iCloud for messages enabled. Maybe check. I don’t have information if the issue has been resolved, as OP did not confirm the solution.

I’m not sure what’s happening here. So if the op sends a text message to their email address, they’ll see an actual email in their inbox. Like this:

So how does doing this, help with getting three message when texting yourself? I’m just confused. It’s nice that everything’s sorted for the op but I have no idea how it came about. 😅

huh. Well I can only say that I personally do not get those emails, interestingly. As I am doing it the same way as explained to OP, it seems to work for us both. You are 1. using the email associated with your Apple account, as stated, right? And 2. is it an external email or the iCloud one?

tbh I don’t know if that has any impact, but I could imagine it makes a difference. Do you have the same issues with your iMessage as OP, or are you just asking?

about the question “how does this help”.

if he sends a message to his phone number, it will show as sent and received by said phone number. I’m not exactly sure why it triples, but alr. So, if he sends it to his email, iMessage will recognize he wants to send a message to the Apple account, so it delivers. That’s how I’ve explained it to myself. Maybe it sounds dumb. Maybe it sounds really cool but is actually just nonsense. I don’t know either. I hope we’d find a solution, if you are having trouble tho. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

quick other suggestion: iMessage / MMS and all that stuff is enabled, right?

No no! I’m not having any issues. I’m just curious how on earth it worked lol. So when you send a text to your email address, you don’t get it in your email? I guess your carrier doesn’t support this feature then. Because it is a carrier feature.

I actually didn't send the text to my Apple Account email address, but I tried doing that and it worked too. Both emails are @gmail.com addresses.

Yes iMessage, MMS, RCS are all enabled. But funny thing is, the messages are green when sending. They’re not even blue. So it’s not using iMessage to send them. And in the email, it says “(my actual phone number)@mms.rogers.com” Like that’s who it shows the email is from. So I’m assuming it uses MMS to send them.

Not so correct. I am not asking you to send an email, which would be dumb of me to do, as you don’t try to take notes via email, but: if you send your next message (note) to yourself, do this: click on new message (top right corner), select your own contact (in the + menu), but instead of your phone number, use the email address associated with your apple account. Does this work?
