Can I change recurring events in Calendar app for a one time without changing whole recurring event?

It would depend on what exact type of change you are trying to make. I make some changes to recurring events and can make it only apply to a single event. Some changes will show that you cannot make a change since it is a recurring event. Can you explain what type of change you are trying to make?

When you select any instance of the recurring event, you are selecting the recurring event. The "recurring event" isn't separate. A particular instance only becomes separate once you make a change that affects only that one.

Excellent information to point out. Looking at it that way should make it easier to understand why it asks the question.
