iPad Logic Pro frequent stuck notes with FF Twin 3
- Using FabFilter’s Twin 3 VST/AU synth in Logic for iPad
- Affects all versions of Logic for iPad including 2.2
- no external hardware connected, just an iPad M4 pro by itself
- never happens in the desktop version of Logic Pro and Twin 3
- doesnt happen with 1st party VST/AU synths
While playing back a track with Twin 3 instruments playing, I will click on the timeline to move the playhead to a different position without stopping playback first. Result: one or more Twin 3 instruments may playback a stuck note until I exit the project. I believe if I move the playhead before a long midi note ends, that note will get stuck, and/or there’s a race condition somewhere. It’s not consistent.
Unsuccessful remediations:
- pressing stop (note stops but starts again on playback)
- pressing stop twice (note stops but starts again on playback)
- playing the stuck note manually in the VST/AU or USB midi controller
- playing back midi regions for that instrument
- Turning the VST/AU off and on
- Muting and unmuting track
- Disabling and enabling track regions
Successful remediations:
- exiting the project entirely
What I need:
- an “all notes off” or “panic” button as a failsafe that applies to 1st and 3rd party VST/AU
- or, a software fix to prevent this from happening in the first place
What I don’t need:
- freezing tracks. This works but not when I’m actively editing midi and playing back, which is where this issue happens most. Freezing and unfreezing repeatedly is also very slow.
- Loop regions. This works in limited cases, but adds restriction and friction in workflow overall. And notes may still get stuck and require exiting the project.
I have been waiting for a fix for this since I first bought Twin 3 and Logic Pro for iPad. I’m trying to move production over to iPad but this issue makes it intolerable.
