iTunes showing songs in wrong order, even after having edited the song's info

I've recently added an album to my iTunes library. The songs had track numbers which did not match. After having edited the songs information, some songs still appear out of order, even while the others follow it normally (instead of appearing as 1-2-3-4-5-etc, they appear as 1-3-8-12-27-2-4-etc). Is there any way to correct this?

The order the songs are shown in, in most views (Album, Artist>Album and even the Genre view), is by album and when you select it, it will display the tracks in the track order, which is strictly decided by the track number tag (field). The Songs view is different: it will depend upon which sort order you are using.

Let's look at the tag (field) that controls the track numbering. Select a track and from iTunes' top bar menu select Edit/Song Info. It opens on the Details tab (which is the one we want to look at). Look towards the bottom of the tab for the track field (ringed in the screenshot):

It's the track field that determines the track number. Ignore track numbering in the filename or the song's title.

iTunes usually copes with the total number of tracks field being empty (the track x of x box), but if you experience any track order issues once the track numbering is filled in, then add the total number of tracks to the "of" tag, just to be certain. In the case of this album, it is 13.

iTunes also copes well if the disc number field is unused. However, if the album is part of a multi-disc set (CD, or compact disc), listed as one album, you will need to have the appropriate disc numbering too.

If the track numbering for every track on the album is okay, now let's look at the Songs view and the different ways to sort the view. The screenshot below shows the track from the last screenshot, along with the rest of the album, but in the Songs view. Notice though, that the album is not in track number order:

The reason that the tracks are not in track number order is because the view (that I am currently using) is being sorted by the track's title, but in reverse alphabetical order. You can see this because of the the small arrow in the right of the header for the Name column. Clicking on the name header will reverse the sort order.

Clicking on the Track No. column's header will display the view (with the arrow pointing upwards) and the tracks in correct track number order:

Notice that the arrow is now in the Track No. column (and pointing up). Tapping the column again will reverse the sort order.
