How to scan an old photo (not digital) into my Mac from printer/scanner?

I have OLD photos that I want to digitize--so I need to scan them onto my Mac and I don't know how to do it!

MacBook Air, macOS 15.5

It sounds like you have an all-in-one printer that includes a flatbed scanner.

If the scanner is AirPrint-compatible, the Mac may be able to use it without the aid of a separate driver. Otherwise you will need a scanner driver provided by the manufacturer – or a commercial package like VueScan which has its own scanner drivers.

To do the actual scanning, you might use

  • Image Capture (an application included with macOS)
  • A scanning application provided by the scanner manufacturer
  • VueScan
  • etc.
