Absolutely lock iPhone screen when the phone is in your pocket

I’ve tried every setting. I turned off the always on display. I’ve locked the screen before I put it in my pocket. Then while it’s in my pocket, it comes on and then whatever’s on the screen gets touched like the start stop button for the audio player. I want to be able to lock the screen off until I not the phone I push and hold the button on the side for three seconds to have it come back on again. I want control the phone. I want the screen off, not taking any input not active of a tap until I push and hold the button on the side for three or four seconds. Comprende.

If you store your phone in your pocket, you're getting unintended touch. Open Settings > Accessibility > Touch and turn off Tap or Swipe to wake as well as Raise to Wake. Going forward you won't get unintended touch, but you will need to tap the side power button to wake your screen.

Thanks, all I’ve tried combinations of this. I think I might have it. This morning with my AirPods in and music playing it kept pausing, and when I looked at the phone, the screen was on again, even though I told it not to do that. I rebooted the phone And that may have fixed it. I used to put my iPhone in a cardboard sleeve to keep it from doing this. It’s so annoying. Earbuds were at 95% and the phone was at 95% battery so I don’t think it was that. The inconsistent behavior is the most frustrating thing about these electronic gadgets.
