I needed a new mouse, but when it came and I charged it with the new cord provided, I can not program it in preferences. The pointer works but I can't scroll or right click. I'm still using Catalina, are the two not compatible?

If you check the system requirements for Apple’s latest keyboards and mice, you’ll see that most require something newer than Catalina. Apple unfortunately keeps raising the system requirements for these basic accessories, which may force you to do without some functionality; track down older, discontinued versions; or use third-party devices.
The Magic Mouse (USB-C) requires macOS 15.1 (Sequoia) or later.
