iCloud says my PC is full when I have more than 1 TB storage available. I can't print.

I have been able to print until recently. iCloud Photos are on. iCloud Drive is not set up. Do I need to set it up? I bought extra storage (2TB for which I pay $9.99/monthly) b/c I was being told my PC is full. I still get this message that my PC is full. "Your PC is full - photos, videos, documents and data are no longer updating."

You're getting the message "Your PC is full – photos, videos, documents and data are no longer updating", even after buying 2TB of iCloud storage. That means:

  • Your iCloud storage (online) has plenty of space.
  • But your PC’s local hard drive is still running out of room.

This happens because iCloud for Windows downloads full-resolution copies of your photos/videos onto your PC unless configured otherwise, which can quickly fill up your local storage.

1. Enable iCloud Drive (optional but useful)

While not required, setting up iCloud Drive can help you manage files better and use "Optimize Storage" features (more on that next). If you only care about photos and not other documents syncing, it's optional.

To set it up:

  • Open iCloud for Windows.
  • Check the box next to iCloud Drive.
  • Click Apply.

2. Optimize iCloud Photos Storage on PC

iCloud Photos has a setting to keep only thumbnails (smaller versions) on your PC and store full-res versions in iCloud, saving local space.

To enable:

  • In iCloud for Windows, next to Photos, click Options.
  • Enable “Optimize iCloud Photos Storage” (this reduces local storage usage).

3. Clear Local Space Manually

Even with optimization, your PC may still be full from:

  • Old downloaded iCloud media
  • Other documents or apps

Try:

  • Using Windows Storage Settings (Settings > System > Storage) to find and delete large files or apps.
  • Running Disk Cleanup or a tool like Storage Sense (in Windows Settings) to clear temp files.
  • Moving files you don’t use often to an external drive.

4. Check Print Issues Separately

If you're unable to print and suspect it's connected:

  • Restart your PC and printer.
  • Check if the printer has available space in its memory/queue.
  • Reinstall printer drivers if needed.
