Does an Apple trade-in require the device and iCloud owner to be present?

Hi! I’m from the Dominican Republic and I want to trade in my computer. My grandmother is traveling to the U.S. — would she be able to complete the trade-in on my behalf, even though she’s not the owner of the device or the iCloud account? Does the trade-in need to be done by the actual owner?

Either one of you can trade in, but you must first make sure Activation Lock is removed. But I must warn you that you shouldn’t trade in your devices other than your region of where you live. If you choose a gift card with trade in, that will only be able to be used in the US, not the Dominican Republic. Apple Gift Cards are sold regionally and are not able to be used internationally. If you on the other hand choose a new device, that will be one sold for the US region. Once again, devices are sold regionally. You will have no warranty in The Dominican Republic meaning if you have to get a repair, you may need to return to the US. In addition, there may be differences in features and compatibility issues.
