iTunes playlists not playing in order after Sequoia 15.5 update

I had put off upgrading to Sequoia until the early bugs were worked out, but I finally gave in with the most recent version 15.5. I wish I hadn't.....

My extensive iTunes Music playlists, that I have scrupulously organized over many years, will no longer play in the order that I arranged the songs. I've turned off and on the controls and shuffle settings etc. but cannot get the songs to play in the order I have put them in my playlists.

I've closed Music and rebooted a couple of times with no luck.

The thousands of songs that I have purchased and organized over the last decade, or more, appear to all be intact as are the playlists.

But when selecting the first song on a playlist and sorting by descending order, the songs are instead played in a random order.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any quick fixes?

Cheers.

Excellent job troubleshooting this!

Share this Playlist in Apple Music:

Have an Apple Music Subscription? If so, see about staring it across your devices, through the iCloud Music Library. Start Here: Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices - Apple Support. You'd Create a Music Playlist with all of this info, and then share this Music Playlist. All should play accordingly.

I've resolved the problem -- without ever understanding why it happened.

The "not-playing-in-order" issue turned out to be limited to only my SMART PLAYLISTS. On a hunch, I created a new Smart Playlist with the same parameters and it is functioning just fine. I then deleted the previous troublesome Smart Playlist that must have been corrupted somehow in the update to Sequoia 15.5.

So now, all appears to be running well and maybe this solution will work for others who might experience the same issue.

All of the best.
