Transforming the text layer also transforms the layer below it

I created a text layer and I want to animate it. When I transform the text (move it, scale it, etc.), it also transforms the layer below it, as if they are a compound clip. If I relocate the text above a different layer it transforms *that* layer along with the text instead. Same thing happens when I apply animation to the text layer. So wherever it is, FCP acts like the text is part of the layer below.

Has anyone encountered this before? I reset preferences to no avail.

”Text” is one that affects all the layers below.

”Basic Title” does not.

AFAICT there is no way to determine, just by looking at the Titles Browser. You either experiment, or you can Open a Copy in Motion: looking at it in Motion, if there is a layer “Title Background” and it is active, then it’s a title that affects the things below when in FCP.

Thank you for linking to another great video by Jenn Jager.

And I have to retract my previous comment about how to see right there in the browser whether a title has the "title background" and thus impact the video underneath.

Yes, you can determine it directly in the browser!

Just look for the default mountain landscape. If you skim over the title and it appears, like in the image below, you will know that it DOES affect the video underneat.
