Apple Watch screen went black and warm after water exposure

I’ve never had an issue wearing my iWatch 8 while cleaning our pool. I turned on the water lock and saw the screen was working just fine. A little while later it was black and warm. I put it in rice and still cannot get it to turn on. I also tried to recharge it with no response. It’s not that old. Not visible cracks, etc. It looks brand new. My confidence in the product is in question. Is there hope it will work?
