What is the exact model of this laptop? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu & selecting "About This Mac", or if you cannot boot normally, then enter the system serial number on the check coverage page here (Please don't post the serial number on the forum since it is considered personal information):

And what version of macOS will the installer be installing? This is important since booting to an older macOS 10.12 or older installer won't be able to see the "Macintosh HD" volume on the newer APFS file system used by macOS 10.13+.

Does this MBAir have the original Apple OEM SSD or a third party SSD? Again, only macOS 10.13+ will be able to see a third party internal SSD.

If this is an Intel Mac and you want to erase the internal SSD, then you can instead erase the whole physical SSD instead. You will need to click "View" within Disk Utility and select "Show All Devices" before the physical SSD will appear on the left pane of Disk Utility.

Do you get to the normal login screen or seeing something else?
