Password to unlock the disk Macintosh HD

Trying to rest my MacBook Air to send back to work. Keeps asking for my password to unlock HD. I type it in then it restarts and the same screen pops up.

MacBook Air 13″, 11.1

The answer depends a lot on WHEN in the boot process this is happening.

The system could have a firmware password set, and that it needed before you can wipe the boot drive.

The system may have an admin account set (other than your own user account), that is needed to make certain changes to the system

The system may have some central management software installed which may have a separate password required to make changes (e.g. to uninstall certain software).

Without knowing where/when this prompt is appearing, it's impossible to predict which case applies, and therefore paths forward.
