Hi, I have an old MacBook Pro, with a disk drive and my iTunes Library. I was using iPods to play music mostly through my car. With my last iPod dying I'm trying to find an alternative that would play the AAC music files. I tried using a usb disk but somehow my car only picked up the odd song in an MPEG format. Any ideas of what might replace my iPod or is there a specific usb stick I should be looking for?
Do some research into your car player. Some may not even support AAC at all. Even then, I sometimes find that renaming to .m4a may help, or .aac, or even using a utility to re-wrap the audio component back into a different mp4 wrapper will work. Our 2016 Honda Fit will play AAC but it can be temperamental vs. easily handling .mp3
Of course it doesn't help that HVAC (Apple lossless) is also called .m4a and even fewer cars support that. A lot of this depends upon the model and age of the car, about which we know nothing.
Although I don't like doing it, it may come down to transcoding to .mp3 just for your car's player.
Try an app such as Invisor Lite to look at the codec details and find out what exact type is used in these audio files.
