How do I fix Mail freezing after iOS 18.5 update on iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Someone posted this and so far it’s working : go to settings>email>fetch and change your the settings to AUTOMATIC. (Mine was on 15 minutes.). Then turn off your phone and wait about 30 seconds then turn it back on. So far it’s worked. I’ll let it know if it freezes again.

Why isn’t anyone trying this?? I rebooted numerous times only to have mail act up time and again minutes later. After searching online, I found this thread. I gave @wacwacextreme suggestion a go and it worked. My mail has been fine ever since!

If anyone thinks all reboots are the same just know they are not. There are multiple ways to reboot. I tried them and the issue came back. I forgot about how to force reboot @wacwacextreme suggested. It is the only force reboot that worked for me.

One note: after quick pressing the volume up button and then quick pressing the volume down button, I pressed and kept holding the power button down past the slider to turn the phone of off until the screen went black, and then the Apple logo appeared. Then I let off the power button while the phone finished rebooting. All has been fined since.

Since then, the mail issue has not reoccurred

Well I for one have tested all suggestions in the thread and woke up this morning (in Australia) with the same problem so none of the suggestions have worked for me. If they have worked for others, great.

I may have found a solution to this and it’s very counterintuitive. I disabled notifications for the mail app. Killed the app. Restarted the phone. Turned notifications back on and have not had a problem for almost 12 hours.

Ah, that’s a shame - it was the one change I made. (Apart from iCloud Private Relay being activated back in April)

I’m still of the mind it is a networking issue rather than the Mail app - but I understand from the OP (if memory serves) Apple know of the issue and will implement a fix.

This is happening on my wife’s iPhone and she doesn’t have any VPN apps installed.

Same thing is happening with my pro max 14 after updating to 18.5. Ugh!!!

iPhone 13 Pro Max here and having the exact same issue since yesterday, June 4. Very frustrating!!

I’m having the same issue. iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 18.5. It just started a yesterday. The only thing that resolves it is rebooting my phone but it eventually happens again.

Same issue. I work in a safety sensitive area. This issue is very dangerous.

You don’t need to force a restart, you can just restart your phone. The greater issue is that there is clearly a bug here.
