Apple Watch Ultra original ghost/phantom screen touch only with WorkOutDoors app
I realize the issue of ghost touch has been extensively discussed, but this situation is a bit different.
This on an original Ultra running Watch OS 11.5.
I use the WorkOutDoors app for workout tracking. I have the app set up so that Water Lock is enabled automatically for both run and cycling workouts; mainly to avoid sleeve and humidity taps.
Recently, on both run and cycling workouts the watch will, at seemingly random times, announce "pause" and/or "resume". Sometimes it's just a "resume". Sometimes it's just a "pause". Sometimes it's a combination: "pause resume pause resume pause resume".
Since this only happens with the one app I reported it to the developer as a potential bug. The developer had me submit data files which showed that the app had received screen taps at the times I reported the "pause/resume" announcements. The developer agreed that this was impossible as photos of the watch screen showed that water lock was indeed enabled for the workout.
The developer said that no other user has reported a similar problem.
I've tried force rebooting the watch, but the problem persists.
I've tried using Apple's Workout app instead of WorkOutDoors, but the random pause/resume didn't happen. But, I didn't use that app enough for this to be definitive.
The watch is still covered by Apple Care+ but I hesitate to deal with Apple on this as I have no real proof of what is going on and the fact that the problem only happens with one app seems to indicate that it is probably not a hardware problem.
Any ideas on what I ought to do here?
The photo was taken immediately after a phantom "pause". As you can see, Water Lock is enabled and the GPS signal is strong. The workout is auto paused as I had stoped to take the photo.
