Unexpected Shutdown Issue on MacBook Air M2 at 50% charge Despite 95% Battery Health

I have been using a MacBook Air M2 since July 2022. My battery health is currently at 95%. Nowadays, my MacBook Air shuts down automatically at around 50% battery. When I plug in the charger, it turns back on and starts charging from 10%. Why it's happening?

Your computer has multiple VPN apps installed, at best these are 100% unnecessary and likely the cause of your issue. Please uninstall each and then post a new EtreCheck report.

Moving forward Mac OS does NOT require nor does it benefit in ANY way by adding any of the following types of third party apps:

  • Antivirus
  • Cleaning
  • VPN
  • Security
  • Maintenance

Mac OS is incredibly stable, secure and quick if left alone. All Mac OS needs in order remain this way is to simply keep it up-to-date and restart the compute about 1x per week, By the way yours hasn't been restarted in 11 days.

Next, there is zero evidence that you backup the computer which is short sighted and a 100% guarantee that you will lose data. This is short sighted and very foolish. Please begin using Time Machine ASAP, if somehow you are not aware of what Time Machine is please click the following link, Back up your Mac with Time Machine. Time Machine only requires an External Hard Disk which are inexpensive and easy to use. Many experienced users on these forums prefer the OWC Mercury Elite Pro due to its reasonable cost, high quality and ease of use. In your case a 2TB model would be more than enough.

Use Spotlight Search:

What's the battery condition? Is Optimize Battery Charging on? If so, turn it off, and vice versa.

  1. [Hold Down: command + Press spacebar]
  2. Type: optimize battery
  3. Click: Battery Health
  4. View: Battery Condition
  5. Toggle: On or Off Optimized Battery Charging
