Why aren’t my MacBook Air trackpad and keyboard working after replacement?
Hi all,
I could really use some help troubleshooting my MacBook Air (2016 model). I accidentally spilled some coffee on it. 😬 Thankfully, everything seemed to continue working except the trackpad, which eventually stopped responding entirely.
I replaced the trackpad and the trackpad cable. The original trackpad clearly had visible damage when I removed it. After replacing both parts, I now have a new issue: neither the trackpad nor the built-in keyboard are working. 😕
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- External mouse and keyboard work perfectly.
- Booted into Safe Mode — no change.
- Updated macOS to the latest version available for this machine.
- Double-checked connections for both the new trackpad and the cable.
At this point, I’m wondering:
- Could the keyboard/trackpad ribbon cable or connector on the logic board be damaged?
- Any advice on diagnosing further before taking it to a repair shop? Not sure it’s worth it. Ha.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions — I’d love to get this working again without having to replace the whole machine!
