Why did my auto-correct and spelling suggestions stop working on iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Hi

I’m having an issue with my iPhone keyboard. Until recently, it used to automatically correct my typos and offer suggestions for misspelled words. Now it doesn’t correct anything at all, and it even underlines almost every word I type as if it’s incorrect — even when the spelling is right.

I’ve already checked all the keyboard settings — Auto-Correction is turned on, Predictive text is on, and everything seems to be configured correctly. I also updated the iOS to the latest version, but the issue is still happening.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Try a Forced Restart.

Press and quickly release the Volume Up Button
Press and quickly release the Volume Down Button
Press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple Logo

(Be sure to perform it quickly, and ignore the Power Off slider that appears midway, it can take up to 30 seconds and a few tries)

If that doesn't work you would want to reset your keyboard layout and settings. That can be done in Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Layout.
