Why can’t Safari use my Wallet?

Whenever a credit card expires, I have to update Wallet and Safari on every device.

Why can’t I have one Wallet per Apple ID shared across all devices?

Yes, I know, some people put their entire family on one Apple ID, or pass off their device to a child, and would want different cards on each device, and might not want to have cards available in Safari.

But it seems like something you should be able to opt in. I don’t have kids, but I have 4 Apple devices I make purchases from. I’ve had my HSA card and one credit card expire in the same month, and also switched bank accounts. This means I’ve had to enter card info 32 times…4 cards * 4 devices * 2 Apps (Wallet & Safari).

Meanwhile, I don’t use Apple Cash, but it’s available everywhere without me having to opt in.

It’s bizarre that nobody seems to have asked about this.

The issuing bank updates cards in your Wallet app(s). You do not need to update them. In fact, the actual card details are not stored in the iPhone. Virtual cards in your Wallet app have unique account numbers (different on each device), different expiration dates and different CVV security codes. That’s why the bank manages the updating of their cards.
