Hi, that seems odd for a new MacBook.

By any chance did you encounter any pop-up stating that apps can only be signed and installed through the App Store?

Assuming you did download apps from respective websites?

If that’s the case, check if there’s a version of the app in the App Store; otherwise, General settings -> Privacy & Security -> close to the bottom you can change the Security setting (Allow applications from …

Thanks for the thoughts! Just to clarify — the Mac came with macOS Sequoia 15.5 preinstalled out of the box (M4 chip, build 24F74), and I haven’t installed anything beyond standard apps like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and OneDrive — all of which crash instantly on launch.

The system is “clean” in the sense that it’s new, factory state, no migration, and minimal usage. I’m aware it’s an early version of Sequoia and probably not fully supported yet, just trying to confirm whether others on M4 hardware are seeing the same.

Re: creating another account - it doesn't seem like an ideal solution for me - I am the only user and I wouldn't want to manage multiple environments.

Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion, I really appreciate it.

I’ll give EtreCheck a try and post the report if anything unusual stands out.

Good to know Firefox 138.0.4 is working for you on M4 — that gives me hope it’s not purely a hardware issue. In my case, Firefox crashed with a profile error, but I’ll revisit it and test with a new user or clean config.

Really appreciate the offer to take a closer look — I’ll follow up soon!

Technically, Sequoia 15.5 is the 11th version of Sequoia

Thanks again for your insights — and sorry if this is a beginner-level question (as you’ve probably already guessed by now 😅):

Can I simply go to the Apple Store (I’m in Munich, so we have one here) and show them the issue?

Since the Mac is brand new and came with Sequoia preinstalled, I’d rather let them assess whether this is a software glitch or if the device should be exchanged.

Appreciate all the support — you’ve all been incredibly helpful!

Hi again,

I went ahead and fully erased and reinstalled macOS using Erase All Content and Settings.

Here’s the new EtreCheck report (additional text).

Would you say there’s still anything serious going on — or does the system now look clean enough?

Just wondering if it’s worth returning the Mac, or if I can safely keep using it as-is.

Thanks again for your time and thoughts!

Now this looks way better that the first report

The very good idea from @Barney-15E 👍 seems to have put thing Right again

Without the need for a trip to the Munich Apple Store

Suggest following the advise from @etresoft ( above )

After all, @etresoft 👍 is the developer of the handy Etrecheck Application

Just one thing and from the report

Disregard the below, crash of lsd

This specific crash has been occurring on almost every point update of Sequoia

At least it has on a M2 Desktop, M3 Laptop and yes this machine I am working now. A M4 desktop

It will disappearing by itself in maybe 7 days

What does lsd process do?

Perhaps one of the other two Contributors have some idea, as I do not
