When I take a screen shot on my imac, it goes to desktop but only for about 5 seconds and then disappears completely. It is not in the desktop folder, nor does it appear anywhere else.

What key commands are you using for Screenshots...?
Shift+Command+3
Shift+Command+4
Shift+Command+4+Space
Shift+Command+5
Go to the support article > Take a screenshot on Mac - Apple Support
Tip: use "Shift+Command+5" select Options and make sure that
Save to: is set to Desktop and Timer is set to None, click ESC
Then test to see if Screenshots are going to the desktop

The Dropbox app has been known to intercept screenshots. Might that be a factor?

Whenever you take a screenshot, Dropbox will automatically save it to your Dropbox and copy a link to your clipboard so you can share it instantly.

It seems people understood, as the question was answered. If you need more informaiton, though, please let me know. I am 75 years old and still working full time. I don't have the time to research, except for my job. I do appreciate your help.
