How do I recover lost desktop icons on my iMac after syncing with iPad?

I was looking for a way to synchronize my Mac with my iPad when I agreed to some thing incorrectly and lost most of my desktop icons. I have 3 new directories that have appeared "Desktop - iMac", "Desktop - iMac-2", "Desktiop - iMac - 3" with 80, 100 and 74 items respectively.

Images on my desktop Ventura OS keep disappearing I have a MacBook Air 2020 that has two items on the desktop: a folder of the pictures I imported from my iPhone 12 and my hard drive. I’ve been on Macs since 1988 and this is the first time this has ever happened to me. If I tap the desktop with my cursor the two images show up but if I tap the desktop with my cursor again, both images disappear. I’ve looked in all the settings that I can find including one that says to leave folders on the desktop, which I checked. Unable to change external drive folder icons After the Sonoma upgrade, I cannot change an external drive's (ie. Sandisk USB stick) folder icon. I have been using the technique of copying a picture, selecting the folder's info, and then pasting the copied picture onto the upper left hand icon, which then displays the copied picture. This technique now does not work, and I am unable to change the folder icon on the external drive.

Disappearing desktop folder when updating to Ventura, where did they go Okay, I just upgraded to Ventura (13.1) and had the problem that all my desktop folders had disappeared. The finder had them but I had difficulty transferring them to the desktop. Where are they and how to retrieve them? update: after researching, I found them, with their icons in my trash. If this happens to you, do delete your trash until you pull them back on your desktop.

You use your Time Machine backup to restore the files.
