iOS 18 system uses up my mobile data!

I see someone is having this issue, but for some reason the thread is locked and I can’t reply there.

So, I alwaya have everything that would use large amounts of data turned OFF in settings (Automatic updates OFF, Only download OFF), yet last month my iPhone 12 left me with NO mobile data in a most critic situation.

It turned out that automatic updates were turned ON (100% guaranteed it wasn’t or anyone else), and the iPhone downloaded the latest update using mobile data.

After having turned everything OFF again and reset the usage statistics, there are 500 MB of used mobile data in 5 days by System > General

I can’t even tap and see exactly what those 500 MB were used by. This is simply outrageous! Why does iOS with literally ALL user settings related to mobile usage turned OFF still use 500 MB of mobile data in 5 days?! I have 4GB/month, so at this rate, the system would use up 3 GB/month! What have you done, Apple?!

LOL yes, I know… the last sentence was supposed to be a rhetorical jab :)

Anyway, I’m sure it’s some new feature they added which they thought would be cool to be enabled by default. Either 18.3.1 or 18.4 turned on automatic updates AND allowed updates to be dowloaded using mobile data, which they also thought would be cool.

I’m trying to get at the bottom of this and find out what exactly is using up my mobile data. So far, it appears the Passwords app has been pretty actively using the connection, even while it was disallowed 🤷‍♂️
