Clock missing from status bar in Books after iOS 17.7.7 update

I updated my iPad to 17.7.7 and now I cannot get the status bar (specifically the clock) to show up. I have gone to Settings > Books > Show Status Bar and turned it off and on multiple times. I have force closed the app and adjusted the settings, and the same with restarting my iPad. I learned during this that any time I close the app or restart my iPad, Books loses any and all customizations. How can I fix these two issues?

iPad clock widget has disappeared? I give up. The very useful timer/clock widget has vanished from my ios 17.7.2 7th Gen iPad. This is since I tried to offload apps so as to install ios18 (unsuccessfully) Spotlight search does not find it, and no sign of it in the app library. I'm puzzled. Please help.

Books IOS 17 - blank pages being added In latest IOS 17.1 iPad updated, blank pages are being added in the middle of chapters of books. Restarting books and deleting and downloading the book does not solve the problem.
