iPad iOS 17.7.7 update Lost Safari Favorites Bar

Updated iPad Gen 6 to iOS 17.7.7 today, and now my Safari Favorites Menu Bar is missing.

Process to rectify as follows:

  • Checked Settings > Safari > Show Favourites Bar = On
  • Turned above off and full cold reboot
  • Turned above on and full cold reboot
  • iCloud settings turned off Safari sync'ing and reset
  • Full cold reboot
  • iCloud settings turned on Safari sync'ing
  • Full cold reboot
  • Reset Settings
  • Full device restore from backup prior to update
  • Full device reset to factory settings

None of the above worked to bring back the Safari Favorites Menu Bar within Safari.

Same as above, plus Safari start page can’t be edited. It defaults to every option checked (Favorites, Frequently visited, Shared with you, Privacy report, etc.)

I like to have clean start page, with favorites bar enabled and just iCloud tabs option.

But as OP stated above, the show favorites bar is bugged / broken with 17.7.7 -AND- the start page can’t be edited. It just constantly reverts any edit settings made when closing/restarting browser. It only saves edit options for the duration of browser session.

Yep, me too experiencing continual app log-outs.

Also, the Apple weather widget keeps asking for Location permissions, even though 'Aways' is set, it changes to 'While Using' again and then 'Allow widgets from Weather to use your location' permission keeps popping up.

This is the BUGGIEST update I have ever experienced in my 20 years of Apple products.

For Apple? I doubt it; but it's the beginning of the end for these 6th-gen iPads for sure. iPadOS 18 already dropped support for them. Apple seems to like about a 5-year lifecycle on things give or take, and these are around 6. So it wouldn't surprise me if they're a small enough portion of the pool that they don't consider it importent to do rigorous testing.

Yippee 🥳

As dronarron just posted, the Favourites Bar is now back within Safari

Also, it appears the Location settings are now sticking

Also, Log-ins are also now sticking

So it appears all bugs I was experiencing has been fixed with this minor update to iOS 17.7.8 for 6th Gen iPad
