All the button does now is flash the black rectangle at the top of the screen. I sure I changed a setting I should not have. HELP PLEASE. Thank you.

On the iPhone 16, the “silent button” is actually the Action Button and can be set up to do different things, like toggle silent mode or launch other features.
Double-check it’s set to toggle silent mode:

Go to Settings > Action Button. here you can program the action button for it to behave like a silent switch again
Also, you don't just press the button momentarily. You have to press and hold it for a few seconds for it to operate.
