If I try to log into a site, I'll hit the log in tab and it just brings up a white screen with nothing on it.
Also, on some sites that have pictures to describe what they offer won't come up. Just a blank spot where the picture is with a blue square.
The computer won't update anymore, I assume because of age.

Yep. Support for macOS Catalina has all but disappeared and the computer is living on borrowed time. Internet standards have changed and the old Safari browser cannot make the required secure connections.
You might try installing the Firefox browser. I understand that the current version still works in Catalina, for now.

I am running Mojave and have Safari 14.1.2.
I don’t use Safari normally but do use Firefox (115.23.0esr) which is still working fine for me.
Tried Safari and again seems to work ok.
If you’d inform us of a site you are having trouble with then I could test it for you.

That’s your decision.
I usually only buy from websites that have been around for more years than this one, here having been first registered in 2021.
Importing from the website’s registered location into the US is not likely going to be cheap, either.

Bad news or good news?
Using Safari 14.1.2, I think I get the same problem with this hardaddy site as you. There are some pictures shown but mostly not.
The good news is that even my version of Firefox (115.23.0esr) seems to work just fine so, if you haven’t already, as D.I Johnson advised get Firefox: search for “Firefox download for mac”.
For Catalina 10.15 you can get the latest version 138.0.1.
Contact the website maintainer, and inform them their website is inaccessible to you.
One of the available HTML validators is showing fifty-some errors on the main page of that website, and another shows thirty-some errors. Various of the errors are related to loading images, too.
