How do I download mp3 files from my Mac Mini?

I have about 4,200 mp3 files in my Apple Music library. None of them were downloaded or purchased from iTunes; they’re all ripped from physical CDs in my collection, purchased over the years…some going back to the late ‘80s. Up until recently, I could rip a CD to my Music library and it would sync across all of my devices. Well, Apple changed all that, and now I need a subscription to Apple Music in order for my music to sync. Can anyone explain how to copy all those mp3 files (to a flash drive perhaps) so I can at least listen to them in my truck using the USB port? I tried copying the music folder on my Mac Mini to a flash drive but didn’t get many actual mp3 files (really only a few of the 4,200 files)…I mostly got album art. Where are those mp3 files? It seems like most of the actual files have “disappeared.” Can someone please explain - in Layman’s terms - how to achieve this? Many thanks in advance!

Mac mini, macOS 15.4

DC,

You mention a lot of things there, but the most important is to find the MP3s. If the song is in your Music library, right-click > Show in Finder will tell you where it is supposed to be. If it is not there, do a search of your hard drive using Finder.

Once you have them all located, you can drag-n-drop to the USB drive. Do not attempt to drag all 4200 at once. Start with a small batch, and make sure it copies correctly before doing additional batches.
