How to automatically mount Thunder Bolt drives at boot on Mac mini?

After replacing my old 2014 Mac Mini with a new M4 Mac Mini, the two external thunderbolt drives do not mount a BOOT time.

If I log onto the system, only then does the OS mount the two external drives - and the two drives are both accessible and work correctly.

How do I get the OS to mount the drives AUTOMATICALLY at boot time?

The old 2014 mini had the server software installed - which is no longer supported.

I have received an answer from the vendor of the external drives.

This apple forum post shows the trick.

As near as I can tell, there is no settings option for this.

Open a terminal and copy and paste the following command. You will need to enter your password.

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount AutomountDisksWithoutUserLogin -bool true

I’ve tested this on an M1 Mac Mini with Sequoia and my Pegasus mounts on boot without logging into the GUI.

I just tested it and it appears to work as desired.

After several hours of testing, I can say with confidence that things are now working as expected.

Thanks to Rich (from Promise?) for the fix:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount AutomountDisksWithoutUserLogin -bool true

The old Mini (2014 edition) was purchased with the optional "server" software which may be why it worked.

Where might I find documentation covering the boot process?
