Why is my Phone app taking 8.13 GB of space?

The storage space being used by my Phone app is unusually high.

I’ve asked the moderator to fix the title; they may or may not.

Your phone usage is off the wall; mine is 13 MB. I suspect drive corruption. Back up the phone, then restore the backup.

Now that we have clarity on what you are asking, mine is 22MB. Lawrence is probably right; drive corruption. That is why whenever I set up a new phone I always set it up as new and never transfer data from the old phone (the data I want to transfer is usually already synced via iCloud and not from backup).

I have found that when you transfer data from an old phone you also transfer accumulated “junk” as software tends to become bloated due to caches, obsolete files and data corruption.

That sounds like something I can handle. I can do this via iCloud backup or should my laptop get involved?

I found a thread on Reddit with someone having the same problem.

I have contact photos and posters on many of my contacts. Many of which I upscaled so they would be higher quality. That sure came and bit me in the behind!

Apparently it's an old bug that Apple hasn't bothered to fix.

Am I allowed to post a link to the discussion on Reddit here? I don't often come to Apple Communities so I may not be highly familiar with the rules.
