Safari lock icon disappear on my MacBook Air

I just replaced my 2015 MacBook Air for a 2025 one. I just noticed the lock icon that used to appear in the search bar to reassure me the site was genuine has gone. I wonder therefore how we can easily be reassured the web site for paying a utilities bill for example is genuine? Help would be appreciated.

In addition to what Mac Jim ID wrote if you still want to assure yourself the website is secure tap the

icon in the Smart Search field, then then the "three dots" then Connection Security Details.

Now all sites that you navigate to will be SSL secured sites. If you attempt to access a non-secure site you will get a warning as seen below and if you choose to continue to the site, then in the search bar you will see "Not Secure", so you know the website is not secure. It is no longer necessary to continually make sure the sites you visit are secure, because that would only be possible if you explicitly allowed the site to be loaded after seeing the warning.
