How to fix an Incorrectly Organized old Music (iTunes) folder to Make Portable
Hi
I'm trying to prepare to transfer my Music library and media from my old iMac (27", 2013, Catalina 10.15) on to an external hard drive, to then use with Music on my new MacBook Pro (16", 2023, Sonoa 14.4).
I have been following the steps in the article Make a Split Library Portable. However, my media folder is not in the right location, but a level too deep (has been for a long time).
- Media is in: Home/Music/iTunes 1/iTunes Media/Music/ (folders w Artists & mp3s within)
- Library is in: Home/Music/MusicLibrary
Current version of Music is: 1.0.6.10
Should I try to fix the misorganization issue above first, before putting the library and media on the external drive to migrate? Would it be bad if I did it in its current state? If I should try to fix it, how to go about?
Then...assuming that gets resolved...after that I just put the lowest level Music folder on the external HD, connect that to my new laptop, start Music on the laptop holding Alt and then selecting the library on the HD?
Thanks in advance! --Eric
