Facebook app keeps crashing since updating IPad Pro to 18.4.1

I pulled my 5th Gen iPad Pro from out of it's Magic Keyboard. Opened up Facebook, clicked on a friends profile, and scrolled to my heart's content.

As soon as I re-attached the keyboard, as soon as I pushed up to scroll, the app crashed.

If I open the app with the keyboard attached, I can scroll the feed all day. As soon as I click on a page/profile... as soon as I scroll, the app crashes (if I scroll really slowly, I seem to be able to scroll further).

Opening up the Facebook page in safari presents zero problems/crashes.

A search leading to a marketplace seems to present no problem, but a search to a page/profile causes crash.

Other users have report that the magic keyboard could be the issue.

I have the same problem with my iPad using a Logitech keyboard. When I remove the keyboard FB works fine. Husband’s iPad without keyboard works fine, as does the Mac.

Hey, I totally get the vibe that the issue’s probably with the Facebook app version itself. I’ve noticed they’ve been rolling out a bunch of updates lately to squash bugs, and it seems like things are kinda getting better, but not fully fixed. Facebook doesn’t mention anything about Magic Keyboard compatibility, but honestly, I’m pretty sure your Magic Keyboard isn’t the culprit—it’s likely just the app acting up. Keep us posted if you find a workaround! 😎

If it’s still crashing, use Safari for Facebook as a temp fix. Report the bug to Meta in the App Store—they gotta know! You got this! 🍎

Facebook has always had trouble with App Development and particularly on the iPad. You will see that in just the last month there have been 11 updates for Facebook to resolve bugs and at times each update also introduces more bugs as the users are basically the bug testers. There clearly is not much testing going on in-house before each of these updates are released.

Stay tuned, there is always another Facebook update right around the corner. For the iPad Pro that is working with Facebook, I would make sure it does not automatically update to the latest version with 510.0.0 being the latest version of Facebook released 6 days ago.

IT IS NOT!!!! The problem is the Facebook app and it will require an update from Meta to resolve it. That is why you experience zero problems when using the Magic Keyboard with any other app. Facebook uses their own custom input methods that have already been the subject of many problems. You may have forgotten about the black boxes that appeared on the top of text fields obscuring anything typed and the changing of typed words that has already been acknowledged by Meta and fixed with an update to the app.

It is just another of the long list of bugs with the Facebook app that have been reported, particularly when used on an iPad. That is clear when you see that Facebook has updated the app 10 times in just the last month for bug fixes.

How the heck do I contact Meta—I just get dumped into automated “how can I help you”-and of course there are no options for “My app keeps crashing” or anything resembling

It is not your device, it is the App. Contact Meta or wait for them to update the app again to go along with the other 11 updates they have done in just the last month for bug fixes.

They do not provide support through phone, email, or chat. There is also not a Support Forum such as this for users to discuss issues, where problems would be available for all users to see. That is their business model and really just highlights how much they value their users. They are interested in collecting your data to sell to advertisers, just not so much spending any time with you to work through a problem.

This is exactly the problem I have as well. If I disconnect from the Magic Keyboard I can scroll on someone’s profile with no issues. If I reconnect to the magic keyboard and try to scroll on a friend’s profile, Facebook crashes.

THIS IS A MAGIC KEYBOARD SOFTWARE ISSUE!!! Yes, It crashes every time you look at a profile or your own profile. As soon as you start to scroll down it crashes out of the app. I am also seeing my magic keyboard disconnecting continually from the iPad as well since this update. If you disconnect from the Magic Keyboard and go to the facebook profile page and scroll down it does not crash the app. Put the keyboard back on and do the same, It crashes… it is a MAGIC KEYBOARD glitch.
