Hi. I have an iphone 13 pro, second hand.
When I go into portrait mode on the camera the depth of field works perfectly, however, when I take my picture there is no depth of field.
This only occurs on the rear camera.
Can you help?

Thanks Jeff, I’m aware of this. Used a dslr for years. But if you look at both photos you can see the camera can see the depth of field shift but when taking the photo it doesn’t work. And doesn’t store as a portrait photo so I can edit depth of field either
So I took a screenshot of what the camera sees and the above pic is what the camera takes when shutter is pressed
DOF is defined as a zone or distance of acceptable focus that extends behind and in front of the point of exact focus (subject).
Using the aperture scale beneath the image, choose a larger numerical f/number for more DoF (more distance in front of and behind subject will be in focus). Choose a smaller numerical F/number for less DoF.
Other factors affect DoF, distance to subject and focal length of the lens.
Apple and other cell phone manufacturers use computational photography (think AI) to simulate a DOF effect. Cellphone cameras do not have a variable aperture to create t true photographic DOF.
Please take a screenshot of the image the camera takes showing the Info for the image. See example below.

You want the background to be blurrier, is that correct?
That’s right. Having tried a couple of camera apps I think my depth of field sensor is bust.
I suspect it’s likely a software issue. If it were hardware, I don’t think it’d be able to simulate the effect on the screen before taking the picture.
Is your iPhone updated to latest iOS version?
