How do I export a video to Mini DV with Final Cut Pro?

I have a Sony mini-DV camera from 2003 (DCR-TRV950E). With the right adapters I can import recorded tapes flawlessly. The camera is recognized by the system and can even be controlled out of FCP 11.1 itself.

Apparently dumping back to tape is easy too; set the camera to VCR, make sure DV-in is allowed on the camera, play the timeline in FCP and hit the record button on your camera to record (not the main recording button that is used in camera mode but another REC button that should be there on your camera).

My only problem is that in the settings of FCP my camera is not recognized or even found as an external monitor. It says in 'settings' under 'playback': "A/V Output: None found", even though it recognizes the camera for input.

How do I get my camera recognized for A/V output?

The last version of FCP that had the feature that you describe was version 7, released in around 2009.

Therefore no version of FCP, whether it be called FCPX or FCP, released from 2011 onwards , has this feature .

This would include any version from 10.0.0 to the current 11.1

There is absolutely no need nowadays to export DV back to tape.

It was something that needed to be done back in the day because there were few ways to display the edited video but now with tiny high quality .mp4 files it is unnecessary.

Very few people have DV cameras and before long those who do will find their cameras failing and the tapes unplayable and nothing more than scrap.
