Thank You!!! I had contacted Apple support and sent screen videos of attempts to delete phrases and then watching them reappear, and also sent phone logs they requested, but they never replied with any answer. The final time I checked if they had any updates on the problem and a fix I was told they can’t predict when “new features” will be released. 😡 It’s not a “feature”, it’s a bug!! If I still had a larynx I would have screamed out loud in frustration.
I expected the saved phrases were iCloud somewhere, but my Mac does seem to be the source of the issue - it appeared when I updated my devices to iOS 18 but I had also updated the Mac and tried LiveSpeech on the Mac. I mainly use LiveSpeech on those iOS devices to talk to people when I am out and about or making phone calls. I almost never use it on my Mac.
I deleted that file and flushed the cache but that didn’t resolve the issue on my iPhone and iPads. I tried several sequences of steps with iPad and iPhone and Mac, like delete phrases, turn off/on LiveSpeech, reboot device, and at some point they were all clear. It seems like success happens if I
- turn off LiveSpeech on the iOS devices (after attempting to deleting phrases but that may be irrelevant),
- then go to the Mac as the only and last device with LiveSpeech on and delete phrases,
- then delete that plist file,
- then flush cache with the killall command,
- then reboot the Mac.
- Wait a bit for whatever sync process to happen from the Mac to iCloud,
- check to make sure the Saved list on the Mac is still clear,
- then later go to my iOS devices and reboot them and turn on LiveSpeech,
- wait a bit assuming some sync process has to happen, then check that Saved phrases are indeed finally cleared
Something like that seemed to be what was needed to make the iOS devices clear their own cache and update with the cleared list last defined by the Mac. I dunno if all those steps are needed but that’s what worked for me.
Since this problem appears to have been caused by my Mac OS, and I mainly use LiveSpeech on my iOS devices, i then turned LiveSpeech off on the Mac and won’t ever use it there.
Again, huge thanks to you for this information!!!
