How do I increase text size on macOS High Sierra?

Why has all the text on my Mac High Sierra version 10.13.6 gone very small and how to return to the original size,

Increase text size in browsers I know how to change it temporarily with command -/+ but how do I keep it consistenly large? I notice I keep hunching over and then realized that despite zooming in on one site, the next site I go to, the font size resets to small again. Also it would be ideal to increase the font size without increasing the size of everything else on the page because sometimes this destroys the functionality of the page when certain elements get so big they obscure the whole screen (like photos or interactive buttons etc.) Also don't want to change the resolution because that will mess up functionality of photo editing software etc. Using Safari and Chrome. Happens on both. Macbook Pro 16" MacOS 10.15.7

How do I make everything on my display bigger? How do I make everything on my macOS Monterey display bigger. It's hared to read the small letters in browsers and in Mail. Option+Plus doesn't make the text n the list of emails bigger, thought it makes the text in the preview pane bigger

Messages font size not working I would like to adjust the font size of my Messages on new Mac Mini, but the CMD + and CMD - keys are doing nothing at all. I've also tried going through the View menu to "Make text bigger" and again, there is effect. The key combinations work for other apps, so it is something unique to Messages. Apparently one cannot uninstall and reinstall Messages, which normally I would do to fix something like this. I'm not going to change screen size to change the font of one app, since it needs to work as designed, so please don't suggest that. I've logged in and out of Messages, but no change. This has been going on a while, not sure when it started, and I hoped 13.5 would fix it, but no go. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check System Settings -> Displays -> Text Size

The OS has options to scale text based on your display size. Maybe it got switched?
