How will I know when macOS Ventura stops being supported?

Will users be notified when Ventura reaches end of life and is no longer supported? If not, is there a webpage on the Apple website that we can monitor for such announcements?

Apple doesn't announce macOS release dates in advance – but their pattern for the last ten years has been to release one new major version of macOS per year, some time in September, October, or November. This suggests that Ventura will fall out of the "most recent three" in September, October, or November of 2025 when Sequoia's successor comes out.

macOS does not reach "end of life." Each version of macOS receives official updates for about 3 years after it is first released. But Apple may still provide certain security updates if it deems them important enough for an older release of macOS.

As the time approaches for a new major release of macOS there will be predictions about the release date and at some point Apple makes it official.

There is nothing to worry about here. Ventura will remain perfectly usable for years to come.

Frankly, I'm not so sure about that, being also affected by the recent SMB bug disaster

Some people may have had problems with SMB but I wouldn't call it a disaster if the implication is to say that macOS is woefully bug-ridden. I'm not discounting that some may have had problems with SMB ... but I run a field of Macs on High Sierra, Catalina, Monterey, Sonoma & Sequoia and I have not had any problems with SMB or file sharing. No problems with anything else, either.

I reserve the High Sierra machine for a few 32-bit apps that I still want to use. As for actual problems, I haven't had any upgrading from one version of macOS to another.

Yes, I get that. I have two MacBooks Pro (2008 and mid-2012) running El Capitan for 32-bit software as well as audio hardware compatibility. The latter also has Mountain Lion, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina partitions.

But with Ventura, already the previous 13.7.4 update has caused compatibility problems for me, e.g. by breaking the Retroactive app to run certain "obsolete" Apple apps.

I'm currently seriously thinking about downgrading the MacBook Air to Ventura 13.7.3. (With 1.5TB worth of data on the internal drive, this is not a trivial task though…)
