FCP compound clip problem

I'm taking this Ripple course (Apple Certified). They give you the footage to import. So, I got to a part where you make a compound. The little film is about a helicopter pilot. The compound clip is basically a split frame. Pilot on screen right, scenery he's seeing in left. These clips are b roll over his on camera interview in a hanger. So the problem is, when I try to make a compound clip by selecting the two aforementioned clips, the compound clip wants to use the helicopter pilot on one side of the screen, but for the other side it chooses the next clip down the timeline from the pilot. It won't use the scenery shot. See timeline attachment: I want to use the stacked shots, Aerials 11 04 a and Go Pro 3310 for the composite. Instead the composite uses Go Pro 3310 with DN 9503 t(next door to GO Pro 3310) to make the composite. Help!!
