It was not caused by an update; it was a coincidental hardware failure.

You admit to noticing issues since buying the phone. While the situation you are in is unfortunate, it was not caused by an update. Hardware issues can happen at anytime at no fault of anyone’s.

Apple provides a one year limited warranty from defects, but they also offer the option to buy an extension with AppleCare+. Since your warranty is expired your choices are to pay for out of warranty service or buy a new phone at a model and price in your budget.
