Messages app keeps closing after macOS 15.4 update
Ever since upgrading to Mac OS 15.4 my Messages App is closing on it's own like it's QuickTime or Preview. Anyone else having this issue?

After a few days on 15.4.1 there has been no changes, messages, maps an "X" app are still closing randomly.

Yep, I just came back in here and the messages app, "X" and maps are all closed gain. I'm almost ready to install a beta at this point!
Also running 2 displays and I'm constantly moving windows from display 1 back to display 2 every time the displays go to sleep.
Same.
Same here now with Notes, Reminders, Safari quitting along with messages. No message after like the apps crashed, just seems to quit on its own. Frustrating.
Same issue with messages closing when I switch to another app. Running a MacBook Air Apple M1, 8GB, 256GB, OS v 15.4.
Only messages on my Mac keeps quitting and seems to happen more often now since 15.4.1. It also seems to happen when I access Messages on my iPhone. Weird.
On multiple occasions now, first with Calendar and now with System Prefs, I have quit the app and the window stays open. So now we have apps closing by themselves and ones that don't want to go away. WE NEED an update for this like yesterday!!!
Ok, I updated to 15.4.1 last night. I've had messages open for 8 hours straight while working. It has not shutdown. I am cautiously optimistic but will keep observing. Will see after the Mac goes to sleep tonight if it will still be open the next day. Will report back.
I signed out of my iCloud account in the Messages settings, rebooted, then signed back in. That seemed to mitigate the problem for a while, but now (2-3 days later, maybe?) it's happening regularly again.
I've been complaining about this for a while, no response from Apple. For me it's Messages and News, and on two relatively new computers with plenty of space. I even did a Sequoia reinstall on both computers, which made a difference for about a day, then both programs went back to quitting. There is clearly a fundamental problem in the OS that Apple seems to be ignoring. Hey - maybe they can get Apple Intelligence to work on it! Oh, that's right...
Funny, I hadn't seen any issues with any of the native apps until AFTER the 15.4.1 update. And with that update I've only noticed Messages just suddenly having quit on me without any indication as to why.
Not sure if it's a multiple-display thing or what. I work in Safari all day doing web development, that's never quit on me. Calendar, Mail and Notes always stay open, no issues, and no problems quitting apps when I want to.
From all the various comments here it sounds like there's some inconsistency to the issue and, as a developer, there's nothing worse than an issue you cannot consistently recreate under a specific set of circumstances. If you can't do that, it's impossible to find the source of the problem and fix it. Nevertheless, there is clearly an issue and lots of people are having it, just not consistently the same way in all cases. Hopefully when these apps shut down they are still sending some kind of report to Apple so they have some idea about it.
I think the common problem here for all is messages closing, it is behaving like Quicktime or Preview however I don't ever close the Messages window, do I wouldn't expect for it to act like those apps. I've had the console open and I don't see anything other than the messages stop after the app closes.
The "X" app and Maps app are still closing on me as well, there could be a wider range of affected apps that maybe I'm not using on a daily basis.
I'm hoping this will be fixed in 15.5!!
As far as the displays go, this definitely seems like an Apple Chip problem, the only time I had windows move from one display to another on Intel was when the display didn't turn on for some reason. With the M2 chip and Mac Studio, I'm constantly moving windows back to the second display and it's not all of them, a lot of the time the finder windows stay in place and the rest of the app windows move over and sometimes it's all of them. It's very frustrating to come in after a break and now you are going to have to reset all the windows. I even figured that I would just quit the app and restore "Saved Application State" but Time Machine seems to purposely skips that folder in the back up when you are running your user folder from an external drive.
I'd love to get everything back to working so I could get some work done!! I think I will use the feedback Assistant to see if I can try and get these problems fixed!!
I am on 15.5 and Messages doesn't open. It bounces once in the dock and then absolutely nothing. No crash report nothing to be found in the console logs.
What to say, each and every release macOS seems to get a little worse.
Updated to 15.5 a few days ago and have had no problem with Messages quitting unexpectedly. However, now Notes, Photos, MS Excel, MS Word and WhatsApp are quitting unexpectedly. Good grief! Can we get this fixed.
Fingers crossed this takes care of the problems!!
