Apple Numbers adds suffix to file name ".NUMBERS"

Under MacOS 15.4, every file I save from Numbers adds a suffix ".NUMBERS" on to each file and both the original file name and the suffix added file name show up in recents. This never happened before, has something changed??

How to stop Numbers files from appending filename extension MacOS Sequoia 15.4 using Numbers 14.4. Some, but not all of my Numbers files keep reverting to show filename extensions. In Finder, I have the Show All Filename Extensions box unchecked. It has remained unchecked and most of my files show that the Hide Extension box is checked when looking at Get Info. However, on two files the Hide Extension box is unchecked. When I check it, after a couple of minutes, it unchecks itself. These files are old and have saved for years without issue, but now are defaulting to show a filename extension despite the Finder settings. This started about a week or two ago. I have compared Get Info between "normal" Numbers files and these other files that show extensions. All info is near identical except for the Hide Extension box. They are located the same (on Desktop, shared in iCloud). I can create a new Numbers document and copy paste each tab from the Extension showing file to the new file. I then delete the old file and just save the new one as the old file name. Everything is now fine; that's the workaround. But I'd really like to know why these few files are refusing to keep the Hide Extension option.

Why is Numbers messaging me about downloading the file I'm trying to open? I am not using iCloud at all except for Find My, but when I open a local Numbers file on my iMac, it pops up a tiny (1x3 inches) progress window that says: Downloading <name of document>. The file at that point is open and I'm looking at it. The progress indicator shows that the download has not started, and I just close the download window. This started right after I upgraded to Ventura. I can't find any info about this behavior online. Ideas?

I go to "Get Info" and check ON the "Hide extension" button and it does hide the extension, but whenever I save it, the "Hide extension" button is unchecked and I see the ".numbers" on the filename again.

Here are my Finder settings...

Something has changed? I just upgraded to MacOS 15.4, but maybe that's not it. I can go into each document and turn off the "extension" (which I will), but it is weird! Thanks for your help.

In Finder go in the menu to Finder > Settings > Advanced and see what you have for 'Show all filename extensions'
