Why Does Contact Location Randomly Disappear Under Name in Messages App?
I’ve noticed an inconsistent issue in the Messages app where a contact’s location (normally displayed under their name, e.g., “Riverside, CA”) will randomly disappear and be replaced with nothing at all. Just their name and profile image.
This behavior only affects the visual display of the location underneath the name and happens even when:
- The contact hasn’t moved from their known location.
- Location Sharing is still active and was not turned off.
- Their phone is not in Low Power Mode, Focus Mode, or Airplane Mode.
- For company drivers, we have all relevant settings (Location Services, Find My, etc.) properly enabled and restricted from being changed on their end.
- The device has a great signal and over 50% battery power remaining.
This has happened with multiple contacts. For example, our driver’s phone shows his location for a while, and then hours later it’s just gone despite the phone being stationary at our office. The same thing has occurred with my partner’s device, as shown in the attached screenshots: at 15:38, there’s no location, and at 15:45, it’s back again without any setting changes.
My question is...
Is this a bug introduced in the recent iOS update or programmed by design? Any insight would be appreciated..
