I booked in my AirPods for a battery replacement. They are 5 years old.
Booked it all online. Estimate suggests £49 (I assumed this was the total cost).
When I got to the “Genius” bar, I was told the battery cannot be replaced.

Did they offer a reason why? Since those AirPods are so old, they probably did not have any replacement batteries available. Did you make an appointment for the visit and tell them the reason? If so, I'm surprised they did not tell you then.
