Upgraded but Safari tabs did not transfer

I just upgraded to an iPad 6 running iOS 18.4 but my many (work in progress) open tabs in Safari did not transfer.

Is that normal and can I rescue them please? I made a backup from the old iPad just prior to transfer.

Thanks for the help. I have already transferred all data to the new iPad. I have a backup of the old iPad on my MBP.

  1. Can I connect the new iPad to my MBP to rescue the tabs?
  2. If not, can I back up the old iPad to the cloud and then get the tabs onto my new iPad. I believe that they can share data via the cloud? Is that correct, as I have never used it before?
  3. How can I tell how much space I would need on the cloud?

But can I do this retro actively?

You can't backup retroactively.

I saw iClous Safari 10 mins ago, but now I cannot find it. It also says I cannot back up because of lack of space, although I don't have much data and don't want to change the storage plan as I usually backup to my MacBook Pro anyway.

You can increase your storage plan for a month and then decrease it again.

There is some confusion here. My original post said:

For clarification, the backup was made to my MBP. I have never used iCloud and thought it might be a solution to rescue my tabs if I now backup the old iPad to iCloud. I understand that iCloud data is shared, so would I then be able to find the missing tabs on my new iPad?

Since my OP, I found some "recently deleted" tabs, but they are not what I need.

I have now upgraded to more iCloud space, so could this help?

And will it help if I re-set the new iPad and start all over again? Will the open tabs from the old iPad be shown on the new iPad after I transfer everything again?

I am sceptical because both iPads were connected via bluetooth before I set up the new iPad and did the original transfer yesterday.

Thanks in advance.

OK. Backup from iPad #1 to iCloud completed. iPad #2 now connected, but the Safari tabs have not been transferred or merged, as I was hoping.

I'm puzzled as to why iCloud would know to sync all data without specific instructions? Just imagine that both iPads belonged to different people within a company or different family members. In my case, I want them the same, but how does iCloud know that?
